Summer Drivers EducationDrivers EducationSafeway Driving School provides a comprehensive, in-person, driver education program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed for safe and responsible driving. Our program is open to students aged 14.5 to 18, offering flexibility and convenience for families. Pay $475 total, or choose our convenient payment plan:$275 at registration for the classroom portion, followed by a total of $160 due during the behind-the-wheel training. This amount can be divided between the first and second behind-the-wheel lessons. What's Included: 30 hours of classroom instruction: Covering state-approved curriculum to prepare students for their permit exam. 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training: Individualized, hands-on driving lessons with professional, experienced instructors. Flexible scheduling: Convenient class times and driving sessions designed to fit your student's busy schedule, with easy make-up options available for busy teenaged schedules. State certification: Upon completion of the program, students will receive all necessary documentation to apply for their Minnesota driver’s license. Important Timelines and Planning Tips: Students have one year from the end of the classroom portion or their 15th birthday, whichever is later, to complete their three, 2 hour, behind-the-wheel lessons. Safeway recommends 30 days between each behind-the-wheel lesson, with the final lesson completed about 30 days before the potential road test. It is essential for students to practice regularly with a supervising driver, as frequent practice builds the confidence and skills needed for successful completion of the program. Summer Youth ProgramsSummer is always an adventure at hopkinsschools Community Education! Our goal is to provide a safe, enriching and fun summer for your child. We are committed to providing a wide variety of class options to meet every child's need and interest. Check out these summer programs: Camp Royal offers a variety of camps for students entering Kindergarten to 5th grade. We focus on flexibility, variety and affordability, as well as hiring only the best staff to spend the summer engaging with your child. We offer half day or full day camp options as well as supervised time from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and over lunch time. All camps take place at the Eisenhower Elementary School. Camp Royal will take place Monday through Thursday, June 15 to August 13. Campers can be dropped off as early as 8:30 a.m. and picked up as late as 4:30 p.m. Camp Royal pick up and drop off will happen in the Eisenhower Elementary School bus loop. Parents will not be allowed into the building unless it's for an emergency. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to students attending a full day of Camp Royal during the summer meals program with School Nutrition. Camp Royal camps are available for registration until the end of camp. Register on a week by week basis. Be sure to register your student for a morning camp and an afternoon camp for a full day experience. Registration will close on the Wednesday the week before camps begin. Field Trip week will be offered August 17-20! Camps for Middle School Students including cooking, pottery, chess and STEAM classes. New this year: Royal Zone Summer Camp! Beginner 1 - Swim ABCs for Fearful or Nervous SwimmersThis program is designed for adults who never learned how to swim or have anxiety around water. Participants will learn to be more comfortable and safer in the water. Participants will learn skills including putting face in the water while blowing bubbles, sculling, kicking, and back float / front float. Participants will be put into small groups of 1 to 2 swimmers and 1 instructor. Each participant will be able to progress at their own pace. Beginner 2 - Swim STROKE BasicsThis program is designed for adults who are comfortable in the water and have already mastered all the skills of Swim ABCs (described above). Participants should be able to float on their back and front and recover to standing without assistance. Intermediate 1 - Lap Swim This program is designed for adults who have already mastered all the skills of Adult Swim Beginner 3 and can swim at least 50 yards freestyle without stopping. Participants should also be able to swim 25 yards on their back without assistance. Participants will be assigned half a lane to share with another lap swimmer and allowed to swim at their own pace and will receive guidance and drills from the instructor to refine skills and endurance.Adult Fall 2026 -
Swing & Ballroom DanceMusic & DanceJay, trained under an Arthur Murray instructor, will teach East Coast Swing, Hustle & Waltz dances! Students receive individual attention in a group setting, something not found in every dance class. Review of the previous week's dance steps reinforces learning and helps you feel comfortable. Jay compliments all his students and is one of the best dance instructors in the metro area. Cruise lines around the world recruit him for his dance knowledge and skill. Taylors Falls Boat CruiseTrips and TravelSay hello to Fall and to the scenic beauty of the world famous Dalles of the upper St. Croix River! Afterward, enjoy a stroll down charming Taylors Falls, MN to hunt for treasures at the local shops, enjoy an ice cream treat, or a sunny hike along a river trail. A sack lunch is included during the cruise. Comfortable coach bus departs Eisenhower Community Center (1001 Hwy 7 Hopkins, MN). Details about exact meeting location, departure and return times, and host contact information for day-of communication emailed the week of the tour. NOTE: Due to tour company booking requirements, a minimum of 30 participants is needed to run this tour. Consider inviting a friend (or two) to join you! TAYLORS FALLS BOAT CRUISE ITINERARY 8:45 a.m. Leave from the Eisenhower Community Center (1001 Hwy. 7, Hopkins, MN). The bus should park in front of Door A (School Entrance). 10:00 a.m. Arrive at Taylors Falls Scenic Boat Tours to board the boat. Water levels will determine accessibility. [Those who cannot manage stairs can be transported by golf cart from the motor coach down to the boat landing. There are 20 steps down the staircase from the bus to the boat. Ask staff for assistance. They will be available to give directions and help anyone who has difficulty getting from where the bus drops off passengers down to the boat.] 11:00 a.m. Depart on the 80-minute public cruise. Since 1906, thousands of tourists have enjoyed the scenic beauty of the world-famous Dalles (Dells) of the St. Croix River by authentic paddlewheel boat. The unique rock formations are highlighted by the narration by the crew. The view inspires awe, not just for its beauty but also for the provision of this river that is sculpted through ancient volcanic rock. The Ojibwa, Dakota and Fox people revered the land. Trappers and traders glided in canoes and Bateaux between the basaltic walls they called dalles. Courageous early settlers built a riverside town where steam navigation stopped. This cruise provides a picture postcard view that will not soon be forgotten. Have a sack luncheon prepared by the boat company catering team.
