Students should have previous knowledge of the clay process, wheel throwing, and hand building. This course is an opportunity for students who are interested in setting individual goals. Goals can be based on creating artworks of self-proposed works with support from an instructor. Students will be encouraged to develop a plan for their time in the studio and will be supported in fulfilling that plan throughout the session. Additionally, and per the class’ progress, more advanced wheel and hand building demonstrations will be provided. Attendance is important. Students are expected to bring their own clay tools. Lefse - A Norwegian DelicacyCookingThis wonderful Norwegian delicacy is made for banquets, holidays, weddings and all special occasions. Learn the fine points in making the dough, baking, storing, and of course how to serve lefse- bonus is a bit of history and humor too. We will begin with real potatoes using a number of authentic recipes - and a modern version using instant potatoes. Plan to sample your fresh, warm creations with traditional fillings, plus take home finished lefse and dough to bake and share with family and friends. Starting SoonLifeguard Recertification CourseHigh School EnrichmentThe American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Retraining Course is designed for individuals whose previous certification was impacted due to training compliance concerns identified by the American Red Cross. This course provides participants with the opportunity to complete all required American Red Cross Lifeguarding curriculum and skills assessments necessary to earn a valid Lifeguarding certification. Participants will review and demonstrate proficiency in preventative lifeguarding, surveillance and recognition, emergency response procedures, rescue skills, first aid, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, and team response scenarios. All training will be delivered by an authorized American Red Cross instructor and will meet current Red Cross training requirements. Successful completion of all course requirements, including attendance, skill evaluations, and written assessments, will result in the issuance of a valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification. Please note: This retraining opportunity is being provided at no cost to impacted participants through a partnership between Hopkins Community Education and the American Red Cross.
